Coaches Head Coach Richard Carr came to KWSC in the fall of 2001 with over 25 years of coaching experience. As part of his experience, Richard has coached 13 years for the SW Washington YMCA as well as having spent 6 years training masters swimming stroke technique and mechanics. Richard currently coaches the KWSC Junior swimmers and Mark Morris boys swim team. His easy-going manner makes swimming a fantastic experience for our members of the team. Richard is also a Speech Pathologist for the Longview School District. Coach Lori Clark joined KWSC in June '07. Lori Clark has an extensive coaching resume to include 15 years of at Central Washington University where eight of those years she spent as head coach. She coached the men's swim team to three national championships and the women's to one title. Before Lori became a coach she had a very successful collegiate career in swimming. She was a three year letter winner in swimming at Bemidji State University and as a freshman had an undefeated season and won state championship honors in all four of the events she competed in. Lori Clark is teacher and the pool manager for the Longview School District. Novice Coach Diana Short joined KWSC in September '06. Diana Short brings a wealth of both knowledge and experience to our younger swimmers. She started her own swimming career at 6 years old with the Moscow Swim Team in Moscow, Idaho, continued age group swimming when she moved with her family to the Longview/Kelso area and continued at Kelso High School (where she still holds the school record in the breaststroke) and later swam for Central Washington University in Ellensburg. She has always been interested in youth sports and how they can contribute to a child's development, doing her senior project at KHS on the effects of participation in youth sports with a specific focus on burnout in young athletes and the effects of too much pressure too early. Diana is recently married to a local Longview man, Alex Short, and they are the proud parents of a future swimmer, Amara Meilyn (ok, she may not be quite ready for this season), who can be seen many nights attached to either coach Adam or coach Richard. |
